About Us
What is CERT?
The Community Emergency Response Team is a national program overseen by FEMA. All CERT programs use the basic training curriculum created by FEMA. The CERT program helps train community members to be better prepared to respond to emergency/disaster situations. When emergencies or disasters happen, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, providing assistance to victims and organize spontaneous volunteers at the disaster site.
Who can be a CERT member?
Any resident of Missoula County (or surrounding areas) can become a CERT member, regardless of age or physical ability. You must be 18 years of age and complete the official application. Email us at: info@missoulacert.org for an application, or download a copy below.
What training do you get as a CERT?
All members must complete the CERT Basic Training Course, which can be either a 3 day, 20 hour in person course, or through the CERT Hybrid course, which consists of an online class (taken on your time frame) followed by a one day hands on skills check. The basic training curriculum includes: Disaster Preparedness, the CERT Organizationi, Disaster Medical Operations, Disaster Psychology, Fire Safety & Utility Controls, Light Search and Rescue Operations and Terrorism and CERT. Missoula CERT also requires, and provides CPR certification as well as Traffic Control Certification (online course). We also take other training beyond this as it becomes necessary to assist the Office of Emergency Services.
